The Legend of Bownessie
The Legend of Bownessie has been passed down among the locals of Bowness-on-Windermere for generations.
Long ago, Bownessie was thought to be a guardian spirit of the lake, or perhaps guarding an ancient treasure in tis depths.
One evening, the amazing happened.
Bownessie appeared to a young girl from the village.
Bownessie shared their wisdom with the young girl, telling of the delicate balance between humans and nature.
From that day forth, the villagers honoured Bownessie by caring for nature, and to this day, they keep their eye turned to Windermere to be blessed with a rare sight of Bownessie.
